Xavier introduces anonymous hotline
Xavier University implemented an anonymous reporting
hotline in July. Students and faculty are now able to either write an email or make a phone call to report issues and make suggestions about safety on campus anonymously.
There are nine different categories of issues that can
be reported: accounting and finance, human resources, risk
and safety, information technology, athletics, academic affairs, research, medical and an additional category for anything
that does not pertain directly to any of the listed categories.
The hotline had been under consideration for a year.
Getting the hotline under way was one of the first duties for Jeff Coleman, associate vice president of Audit and Risk Management, when he took up his role in February. "The hotline provides a safe and secure alternative for individuals that are unable to use existing reporting methods, or who have found existing methods unsatisfactory," Coleman said. "It establishes a proactive approach and engages the community to help promote an ethical workplace." Students are encouraged to refer to the Xavier Student Handbook prior to using the
hotline for student conduct matters. The reports will remain
anonymous because they go to EthicsPoint, a third party provider. Further correspondence, such as further questions
or suggestions also go through EthicsPoint to ensure anonymity. Coleman wishes to spread the word about the anonymous reporting hotline. There has been activity on the site
and Coleman hopes that more students will discover and use the tool. Students can email the hotline on https://secure.ethicspoint.com/ domain/media/en/gui/34090/index.html or call the hotline toll free at 1-855-481-6238. Students can also find this information on the Xavier website.
