Parade held in honor of late Cincinnati icon
On Friday, a parade walked past Xavier University in honor of Carl Lindner who passed away on Oct. 17. The parade was hosted in honor of Lindner, who contributed a great deal to Cincinnati. The parade wound through the city of Cincinnati and around 10 a.m. crossed the corner of Dana Ave. and Ledgewood. Many students as well as faculty members were in attendance. Lindner was a Cincinnati businessman and had a major impact on the community.
He experienced a wide variety of business endeavors from owning and selling King's Island, owning the Reds and even modestly working at his father's dairy store.
He was known by the wide-spread Cincinnati community and was a hometown hero as well as an icon.
Although he was a high school dropout, Lindner eventually became one of America's richest men. Due to his large amount of money, giving back to the community was never a problem.
Lindner helped the economy throughout the greater Cincinnati area by donating to charities and bringing more jobs to Cincinnati.
After living nearly a century, Lindner passed away at the age of 92.
In 1991, Lindner was awarded an honorary Doctor of Humanities. That same year, Xavier dedicated a building to him.
The Carl Lindner Family Physics Building is located on the academic mall in his honor.
Having touched the community through many organizations and jobs, a parade to honor Linder's life and accomplishments only seemed appropriate.
