Xavier Cadets attend wide range of summer training camps
The Xavier cadets who attended
the Leadership Development Assistant Course (LDAC) had a wide variety of opportunities this summer.
The juniors (now seniors) also had the opportunity to attend Cadet Troop Leader Training (CTLT). CTLT gives the future lieutenants in ROTC the chance to shadow a new lieutenant in the U.S Army. The shadowing familiarizes
the cadets with the duties and the responsibilities expected of them once they commission.
The cadets participated in a wide variety of units, including combat engineer, signal, field artillery
and armor. Cadets Conrad Leugers and Elijah Durian attended
CTLT in Korea; Cadet Bobby Weigel went to CTLT at Fort Carson, Colorado; Cadet Ryan Jefferds went to Hawaii and Cadets Kyle Osborn and Nick Sagorsky went to Georgia.
The ROTC nursing students were afforded the opportunity to attend a Nursing Summer Training Program (NSTP) at Brooke Army Medical Center (BAMC) in San Antonio, Texas.
The program took place after the completion of LDAC and lasted
28 days. Cadet Kaylee Huber worked on the Burn Unit with her nursing preceptor.
A new lieutenant in the U.S. Army, Cadet Nichole Perrin had many learning opportunities with her preceptor on a medical surgical
unit at BAMC and Cadet Matthew Warner worked on an orthopedics floor.
NSTP was a learning opportunity
for the nursing students of Xavier's ROTC. They were able to gain leadership and nursing skills during their short time in San Antonio.
Three of Xavier's ROTC cadets attended the Leadership Training Course (LTC) this summer at Fort Knox, Ky. Cadets Ashley Watkins, Mary Zekan and Ben Bessler competed
for scholarships during the 28 day camp. They participated in events such as land navigation, squad battle drill exercises, confidence
course, a high ropes course, rappelling and much more.
The cadets learn two years worth of ROTC material during the course of the month.
Six ROTC cadets also attended the Cultural Understanding and Language Proficiency (CULP) Program.
Cadets Kathleen Pember, Madalyn Robbins, Nathan Leadingham, Keith Topper, Matthew Hammer and Evan Demott traveled the world to be immersed in a foreign culture and they were afforded the opportunity
to develop more cultural awareness and diversity. The slots for CULP are very competitive. GPA, physical fitness and an essay
written by the cadets are all considered. These outstanding cadets
visited places such as Croatia, Ghana, Ukraine, Tunisia and Costa Rica.
Last but not least, two ROTC cadets attended Air Assault School this summer.
Air Assault School is an extremely
competitive training program
open to all Army service members. Keith Topper and Jacob Summers were two of the Cadets who completed the Air Assault School; something that only a small number of Cadets manage to do.
