Dr. Westgate is fun and he chooses great music. The ensembles at Xavier are so much better than they used to be! I'm proud to say I play in the bands at Xavier. It's a great musical experience.
I guess Pep Band is simple to teach, but Dr. Westgate is a lot of fun. He is young and understands college kids because, let's face it, he's still one! But he is very professional still and a great guy.
This is the most embarrassing ensemble I have ever been in. I wish Xavier would be honest about the quality of their bands. The conductor is very low caliber. I wish I had never been involved in this music department.
I've been in the band since before Dr. Westgate arrived, and he has definitely improved the ensemble! He knows how to teach and is a very personable guy! If you are thinking about taking a band class, I would definitely recommend it! The pieces are fun and challenging! If you like music, you will like him!
You'll have to read and study, but this is an simple way to get a fine arts credit. 4 multiple-choice exams, an exam with those exact questions, and 2 1-page reports on concerts you see on your own time make up your grade. Attendance required. Often just watch YouTube clips of songs in class. Print out PowerPoints to study and listen to the book CDs.
I liked band before but I this class has diminished my enjoyment of music. No challenge and no teaching. A complete waste of my time. |
