Fantastic professor. Philosophy requires examining thoughts we don’t typically address. He does so with finesse and humor. People who struggle with his courses don’t generally understand the point of his lectures.
Philosophy in general is a tough subject and generally useless. Dwyer took this level of uselessness to a new low. He dwelled on meaningless things and then left you to fend for yourself when the papers are assigned. Find a different prof if you can.
Not a very great prof.. Makes you learn everything by yourself and dwells on a single topic for way too long, often off topic. Very monotone and dull. Grading is somewhat tough, but he gives very tough tests. If you can, I would recommend finding a different prof..
agree with you on team taught class. an experiment, and they're pulling it off. this is a rare exp. at X, two great minds bounicing off each other. sometimes great cop bad cop, but both know their things and they work difficult and well together. thanks gabe and dan!
team taught approach with gottlieb is going real well. friendly to see them bounce ideas off each other. two professionals pushing each other to refine and define their terms and arguments. socratic method a little difficult with so many people. some literally asleep in class. don't know what their missing. team taught experiment q success...
Dwyer's tough but impartial. Socratic method keeps everyone in the loop. I didn't do as well as I wanted, but I got the feed back I wanted.Got low Bs, but I think that wouldve been high Bs in any other course. But wouldnt trade this course for any other one. dont expect a impartialer class, one that keeps you on the balls of your feet. thanks dr dwyer
Philosophy of Love, Erotic Phenomenology--free-flowing discussions, simple to get beyond the terminology and to "the things themselves." Dwyer should be given a chair. For us, the survivors, it was a great experience. Highly recommend you take an upper level w him. Just write great and you'll do great.
They should baptize Dwyer Dr. Synthesis. He brings things apparently out of nowhere and builds a beautiful synthesis and situates it all in a comprehensible history of philosophy. Don't cheat yourself. Challenge yourself and go toe to toe with this Meister.
He's hilarious and loves to go off on tangents. That being said you do have to do the readings and participate actively in class. He is a tough grader on papers, which he makes a large percentage of your final grade.
Dwyer is one of the clearest thinkers on campus. Sharp, focused courses, with tests to keep us honest. Contemp. German. Philo. was more exciting than it sounds. He grasps the history of philosophy very well, and sets up the context very well. tests can be difficult, but impartial on papers. No exams, get to choose your own paper topic. An A for Dwyr
Dwyer is a great prof.. He makes Philosophy very fascinating, even for some who don't love the subject. I really look forward to his class. He's not the easiest, but you will learn a lot and do well if you're willing to put forth the effort.
Not an simple A. I learned a hell of a lot than I thought I would. Makes clear the value of a liberal education. But keep clear notes on board, please! MS Word helped a lot. Take him if you want to learn philo at a major's level. |
