Student art exhibit
On Feb. 17, the annual Xavier Student Art Exhibition opened in the A.B. Cohen Center. According to Kitty Uetz, the
director for the art gallery, the exhibition will run until March
9 andwill showcase pieces from all of the studio disciplines. The 84 student pieces include ceramics,
sculpture, painting, drawing, photography, fibers, graphic design and printmaking. This year, 34 students will have their pieces displayed in the show, some of which can be bought for reasonable prices. Sophomore Katherine
Colborn, has two of her pieces on display. The first, "The Body is Vulnerable," is a pastel drawing. Her second piece, "Cocooning," is a piece created with charcoal and Conte
crayons. This show is Colborn's second student show
in Xavier's Cohen gallery. In January, she had a piece in
the Xavier Society of Visual Arts show, "A Collection of moments," to the Cincinnati Cultural Arts Museum. "It is great that artists at Xavier have a way to display their talent,"
Adam Manson, who attended the opening on Friday evening, said. "It is excellent artwork." Following the Xavier Student Art Exhibition is the Senior Thesis Show, which opens March 16. Other Xavier student artwork is displayed throughout the year. About once a month Uetz changes
out the artwork on display in Alter, as well as on the third floor of the Gallagher Student Center.
