SKM takes executive election

The voting turnout of this year's Student Government Association executive election was the highest in Xavier University history. There were nearly 200 more total votes cast this year than in the Spring 2011 election. The team comprised of Seth Walsh, Matt Morefield and Kristin Sanfilippo won the election with 817 votes, 65 more votes than the winning ticket had last year. Coming in second was Brock McMorran, Morgan Zuziak and Kevin Tighe's ticket with 612 votes. The write-in candidates of James Hyland, Michael Solomon and Robert Corritore had 21 votes. All other write-ins received less than 20 votes.

The winning team explained their reactions to the voting

outcome. "All the support for our ideas was really flattering," future president Seth Walsh said. "It's really rewarding that students knew our platform and were asking questions [during the campaign]" Matt Morefield, future administrative

vice president, said. The team utilized poster boards, team T-shirts, twitter updates and Facebook to promote their campaign. "We want the students to know we did our homework during the campaign by talking to administrative

associates and organizing our platform, so we are going to get a lot accomplished very quickly," future legislative vice president Kristin Sanfilippo said. This week, the team has already planned four meetings with the Xavier administration to begin their executive agenda. Seth Walsh cited their biggest challenge as "Keeping the energy going throughout the year and into September", but they are excited to make a difference as leaders in the Xavier community. "We are eager to show the student body the passion behind SGA and to accomplish what we said we would," Sanfilippo said. "After all the campaigning we can

finally be able to say, ‘Let's go do it.'"
