Cincinnati and the Arts
Rich with history, the Queen City has one of the most expansive arts communities in the Midwest.
With its many museums, including the Taft Museum of Art and the Cincinnati Museum Center at Union Terminal, a world-class symphony and theater organizations worthy of Broadway, Cincinnati has much to offer those who wish to have a cultural experience.
The Cincinnati Museum Center at Union Terminal is not a place that should be missed by anyone. Currently the special exhibit on display is "Cleopatra: The Exhibition."
On view until September 15, this exhibit features artifacts from nearly 2,000 years ago during the reign of the last queen of Egypt.
Also on display until September 4 is the exhibit titled "Inspired by Anne" which features the work of a local artist and fashion designer, Anne Wainscott.
However, the designs are actually 70 and 80 years old as Wainscott was a designer in the 30's and 40's.
The Cincinnati Symphony is one of the top orchestras in the country and fulfills that expectation nearly every weekend during the fall, winter and spring seasons.
This season will definitely be a treat for those interested in masterful music-making!
With guest artists such as Itzach Perlman, Lang Lang and conductors of the highest order, the CSO will certainly be a place to spend an evening.
On the lighter side of the classical scheme, the Cincinnati Pops Orchestra will feature their new conductor John Morris Russell on a series of concerts throughout the year with guest artists such as Wynonna Judd, Chris Botti and the famed Bernadette Peters.
If you have a preference for theater or ballet, the Aronoff Center for the Arts has a ticket waiting for you. Features on stage this year are Wicked, Carmen (ballet), West Side Story and The Rite of Spring among many others.
If comedy is more your taste, check out Funny Bone Comedy Club and Restaurant in Newport on the Levee.
