Match ups you shouldn't miss
For Xavier Nation, every sporting event is an excuse to show up, paint up and show your Muskie pride, but these five are a must-see for every Musketeer.
1. The Crosstown Shootout: For years, the most anticipated event on Xavier and the University of Cincinnati's campuses has been the Crosstown Shootout. This year, the Bearcats are traveling to Muskie territory. This fierce basketball rivalry began in 1927 and is anticipated every year by students and college basketball fanatics alike.
2. Dayton @ Xavier: There are only two words to describe this bitter rivalry: Jimmy Carter. Since 1981, the Dayton Flyers have left Xavier's arena defeated. That's 30 years, six presidents and a turn of the century that have all seen Dayton leave empty handed. This brings a hostile Dayton crowd, and a proud Xavier crowd together in Cintas Center to witness a timeless college rivalry.
3. Stanford @ Xavier: In the 2010 tournament, a heartbreaking game ended the No. 3 Xavier women's basketball team's dreams of reaching the Final Four for the first time in Xavier history. After Xavier senior Dee Dee Jernigan missed two open layups, Stanford went on to score and win the game. This will be the second meeting of the two teams since the 2010 tournament, and the first game on Xavier's home court.
4. Dayton @ Xavier: For the past two years, the Dayton Flyers have won the Atlantic 10 championship title in women's volleyball. This year, Xavier is picked to finish second. Not only will this be a match between two talented teams, but it is also a stem of the fierce rivalry between the Musketeers and the Flyers.
5. Fordham @ Xavier: In their 2010 season, the Xavier men's soccer team won their first A-10 Championship title and made their debut in the NCAA tournament after a 2-1 victory over Fordham to become the final team in the A-10 tournament. This year, Xavier will open conference play at home against Fordham, who is predicted to finish fourth in the A-10, directly behind Xavier at No. 3.
