Baseball splits weekend
The Xavier men's baseball team now has a record of 8-15 after winning two of the five games they played this past week. They split the two games they played against Miami (Ohio) and then went on to win one of the three games they played against Western Illinois. Freshman Alex Westrick, who has proven to be one of the more effective pitchers this season with an ERA of 2.28 pitched three innings
and gave up two earned runs before being pulled in the 8-3 win over Miami (Ohio). The highlight of this game however
came from freshman Adam Hall when he pitched five innings while giving up only one hit and no runs.
During this game Xavier had five players who hit over .500 and the team had a fantastic 12 hits on 32 at bats.
When playing Western Illinois on March 23 the team was able to earn an 11-5 victory thanks to some productive offense. Freshman Derek Hasenbeck went 2-3 with two RBIs and drew two walks. To compliment Hasenbeck, sophomore Tres Eberhardt went 3-for-5 while scoring three of Xavier's 11 runs in the game. "Our lack of offense [is a concern]. We are not very productive right now," head coach Scott Googins said. They made some improvements
on the offensive end after scoring 28 runs in the five games over the course of the week. Junior Jon Richard struggled during his outing against Western Illinois on Saturday when he gave up six runs in three innings. Freshman Jacob Bodner and redshirt junior Tyler Koors both gave up five runs in three innings of pitching as well. While the team had many bright spots in the offensive side of things as well as in Hall's outing, they will look to improve by scoring more runs and giving up fewer runs so early in games. The team defeated Indiana University 11-3 last night and then hosts Charlotte at home.
