Women's soccer struggles in A-10 play

This past week, the Xavier women's soccer team played at Butler where they lost 1-0 in overtime.
They then traveled to Dayton where they lost to the Flyers 3-0.
During the game against Butler, the Musketeers were able to hang with Bulldogs until overtime.
However, there was a major
differential in the shot ratio between both teams. Butler was able to place 21 shots where 12 of them were on goal. Xavier only had three shots, with two of them on goal.
Freshman forward Erin McGauley had all three shots for Xavier in this match.
Defensively, the sophomore keeper Katie Markesbery played all 97 minutes of the game and had 10 saves and allowed one goal.
"We executed our game plan almost flawlessly against a very good Butler team," head coach Woody Sherwood said.
Butler was the favorite in the Atlantic 10 this year and to come out and play them closely is something
Sherwood is very proud of.
On Saturday the Musketeers did not play the Flyers as closely as they played the Bulldogs.
The Flyers were able to tally 30 shots, 17 of which were on goal. Forward Colleen Williams of Dayton had 13 of those shots, four on goal and one goal scored.
Markesbery of Xavier had a season-high 14 saves after a full 90 minutes of play.
Offensive highlights from Xavier could be found in junior forward Mariah Whitaker's shot she was able to get on goal late in the match. It almost went in, but a great play by Dayton's goalkeeper prevented the goal.
The other three shots for Xavier in the match came from junior
midfielder Taylor Dearbaugh, junior forward Ashton Green and sophomore defense player Meredith Gleichert.
After this weekend the team moves to 6-8-1 on the season with four games left in the season, all of which are home conference matchups.
This Friday the team plays Duquesne and then hosts St. Bonaventure on Sunday.
