Major Duties and Responsibilities

OUIO is seeking graduate school students to assist with unresolved unemployment claims which are at a high volume due to the COVID-19 pandemic. You will review case activity comments to identify issues such as lack of verification, lack of communication, etc. and then work to resolve the claim issue(s) by contacting claimants and/or employers. Also, you will let the claimant know what is expected and by what deadline in order to resolve the claim. Additional follow up contacts may be made. Contacts can be made by email or telephone.


  • This position is temporary, unclassified, and is not elgible for benefits.
  • Although categorized as 'part-time', the hours for this position are Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Interns are expected to work 40 hours per week.
  • At this time, this position works from home although you will initiatlly have to come to an ODJFS facility in Columbus Ohio to pick up equipment and receive initial instructions. In the future, you may be assigned to work in an ODJFS facility rather than work from home.
  • In order to do this job, you are required to provide your own internet and telephone access, due to working from home.
  • There are multiple positions available.

The following are the minimum qualifications for this position. For further consideration, applicants must clearly identify how qualifications are met within the education and/or experience sections of the application.

The ideal candidate, at minimum, must have the following:

  • Must be currently enrolled in a graduate program at an accredited college or university and in good academic standing.
  • Proof of academic enrollment (current transcript copy) must be attached to application.
  • Must be 18 years old at start of employment.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Majoring in the follow programs: Business Administration, Criminology, Social Work, Public Administration, or related field.
  • 3.0 and above overall GPA
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office software (Outlook, Teams, Word, Excel) and standard office equipment (e.g. computer/laptop/tablet, monitor(s), headset, keyboard, mouse).
  • Ability to work with and without supervision while completing assigned tasks.
  • Ability to work within teams and maintain professional composure in a dynamic work environment that often requires management and completion of multiple tasks.
  • Demonstrate good judgment and ability to apply logical/critical thought processes when developing solutions.
  • Possess strong communication skills, both oral and written.
