Description

Assist staff involved in the Ohio EPA's Division of Surface Water, 401 and Isolated Permit duties both in the office and in-the-field. Position duties include one or more of the following:* Assist staff in the collection/ preparation/preservation of wetland samples and reconnaissance of survey sites (preparation, loading and unloading, and cleaning of equipment used in water quality surveys).* Assist in the operation/maintenance of field sampling equipment and maintains instrument record logs and other quality assurance records.* Assist in the collection of physical/chemical/biochemical data in wetland surveys and reconnaissance of survey sites (preparation, loading and unloading, and cleaning of equipment used in water quality surveys).* Assist in collection/tabulation of data required to draft 401 water quality certifications; update files, tabulate information needed for administrative reports or surveys; scanning and the geo-rectification of natural wetlands and mitigation site data into a GIS system; visit sites to determine that 401 water quality certifications have been complied with and mitigation plans are being implemented, and to field-verify wetlands identified on National Wetland Inventory maps and to assess mapping precision; collection/preparation/preservation of biological and water quality data; initial process of biological samples; prepares data for electronic data processing systems; operation/maintenance of field sampling equipment consistent with approved quality assurance practices and procedures; collection of physical/chemical/biological data in wetland surveys.MUST BE CURRENTLY ENROLLED IN COLLEGE DEGREE PROGRAM DIRECTLY RELATED TO THE POSITION OR HAVE RECENTLY GRADUATED WITHIN THE QUARTER/SEMESTER IMMEDIATELY PRECEDING THE START DATE.Major area of study: Aquatic Biology, Environmental Science, Water Resources, Chemistry or Engineering (Environmental, Civil, Chemical). Knowledge of safety practices, public relations, Agency policies and procedures and permits as applicable. Ability to swim and lift 50 lbs. Skills in computers (word processing and database work).
