Men's Basketball Takes a Loss in A-10 Opener
1/5/12 12:59 PM
The Xavier men's basketball team continues to struggle despite being at full strength following the return of four suspended players. Perhaps the team's confidence and chemistry, which was present when the then 8th-ranked Musketeers pulled off comeback wins over Vanderbilt and Purdue, has been shaken after a 1-4 stretch without up to 60% of their scoring available and now an 0-2 record at full strength. The Musketeers came back from 19 points down against Purdue and 10 points down against Vanderbilt, but came short this time after falling behind by 16 points at halftime to La Salle in the A-10 opener. The La Salle loss follows a tough loss on New Years Eve at home...Lady Musketeers Struggle Over Christmas Break

From here on out, you can check out the Newswire's up to date coverage of men's basketball over on the basketball blog. In the meantime, here is Kyle Isaacs' recap of the women's basketball games over the Christmas break: Following finals week, the Xavier women’s basketball team headed west to Las Vegas, Nevada for the Duel in the Desert. After a tough opening 70-67 loss to Syracuse, the Musketeers battled Ohio University in the consolation bracket. Xavier fell in double-overtime to the Bobcats, 80-75. The Musketeers were unable to leave Las Vegas with a win, losing to Oklahoma in the final game of the tournament (73-51) ...Much More Content Coming Soon!

I hope that everyone understands that we are all students here at the Newswire, with jobs and other activities in addition to writing about all things Xavier athletics. With that being said, I want to take a few minutes away from preparing for final exams to congratulate the men's soccer team for winning the A-10 title for the second year in a row, and the volleyball team for capping off a strong season with a runner-up finish in the A-10 Tourney. The 12th ranked men's basketball squad has lived up to their expectations so far with a strong start. The Muskies defeated Georgia on Saturday and will face a huge challenge in Nashville tomorrow night, facing the 18th ranked Vanderbilt Commodores in one of the toughest environments in all of college...Kenny Frease Suspended Indefinitely
10/15/11 12:34 PM
On the day of the first official full practice of the 2011 season, attention has turned away from all of the positive vibes going into this season for Xavier basketball. The news around the team has shifted from Tu Holloway's numerous pre-season accolades and aspirations of a Final Four run, to a key member of the team that has now been suspended indefinitely by head coach Chris Mack. That key player is senior center Kenny Frease, who averaged 11.7 points and 7.1 rebounds a game as a junior last season. Frease was named to the preseason Atlantic 10 Conference Second Team recently, but now his status on the team is unclear after an indefinite suspension for "not fulfilling all the responsibilities of a Xavier basketball player." "Kenny has...Why cancelling the campout would be a huge mistake

Let me preface this post by explaining that I am a graduate student at Xavier. This is my second year around the XU campus and I wasn't previously aware of the tradition around the annual student campout for tickets to the Crosstown Shootout against UC. After speaking with a few students, however, I understand that the campout is a long-standing Xavier tradition and a pretty big deal. Although I haven't experienced the campout for myself at XU, I can appreciate this idea because I've been involved in similar campouts for tickets at the University of Kentucky. As a graduate student, I am not eligible for student tickets to the shootout, so the news that came out today in Jake Heath's article in The Newswire doesn't effect me either way. However,...
