Letter to the Editor

All in favor of Andrew Bush’s article, “Muskie fall sports FTW,” say “aye.” Fall is a great time to be a Muskies sports fan. Our men’s football team had two home victories this weekend. And by football, of course, I mean soccer.
Thanks to the Xooligans there has been more student presence, but surely we can fit more students in the stands to cheer on a team with a 9-0-3 record. Unlike other sports, in soccer you can celebrate with the guys as they score a goal, high-five them after a game well played, and get
applauded afterwards for your support. Not a bad way to spend an evening. Also, this past week the volleyball team hosted and beat UC in five sets. The disappointing part was not the lack of volleys and killer spikes, but the lack of crowd enthusiasm and presence. UC’s seven-person student section was louder than the X fans for most of the game. That’s embarrassing. Is that not the point of a home court advantage? Everyone knows it would have been a full house had it been men’s basketball. What’s the difference? It’s still our rival school. The point is to show some love for our other athletes. The swimmers, divers, runners, golfers and tennis players appreciate your support too. Even if you don’t feel like painting your body blue, consider attending a game as an excuse for a study break. Let’s look alive out there, Xavier!
