X-Mile, Xavier’s first freestyle rap contest is taking place at 8:30 p.m. on Sept. 12 in the Gallagher Student Center Atrium.
The event will feature individuals
who have signed up before the event but will also be open to anyone
who wishes to perform during the “open mic” session following the contest.
Anyone who has not signed up but wishes to participate simply
needs to show up at the event and stand in line. “I’m excited to see new and unique music venues
around campus like X-Mile, David Franke, X-Mile competitor and former Xavier Fest performer said. After each contestant has had the opportunity to perform for a maximum of five minutes, judging will begin and prizes will be awarded to the top three performers.
Collin Neri, the chair of the X-Mile event and a member of the SAC Concerts Committee said, “In order to retain the essence
of the movie that inspired us (8-Mile), judging will be done based on how much cheering/intensity the crowd has for a certain
artist.” In order to avoid any discrepancies in choices, if there is a close call, we will have the performers
in question do another set on stage as a tie-breaker.”
The prizes to be awarded include
in-ear Beats By Dre headphones
for first, a Sony Smart Box for second and an 8-Mile DVD for third. Jay Jones will be the featured
DJ at X-Mile.
